Do you consider Muslims in the West to be part of your country's community or not?

  2. Absolutely. I view the Muslims I know in America as 100% American and I believe they see themselves the same way too. Many American Muslims are politically active and involved in their communities by choice. It may be difficult for Muslims in the Middle East to believe that Muslims are not hated and discriminated against inside the US with all of the US military aggression towards Muslim countries but US foreign policy and life in American towns and cities are two very different things.

Would like to hear some comments from Muslims living in America

  3. Of course. USA is a country of immigrants and diverse races and cultures. Not only Muslim communities but many other communities are part of the country. Actually, active community activities are a big part of those immigrant groups' lives.

I of course consider Muslim's to be part of America and I consider Islam to be one of the many American religions. Unfortunately not everyone in America shares my view and many people in my country have a negative or misinformed view of Islam because of the kind of media they consume. I have had several conversations with family and some friends trying to eliminate their negative stereotypes about Islam and Muslim people.

This is challenging, but like Irish, Jewish, Italian, African, and Latin Americans, Muslim Americans will be another wonderful addition to the American story and it's diversity. It just takes some time.
